Everyone knows that John Wall and DeMarcus Cousins are best friends from their days at the University of Kentucky and with the latter visiting Washington D.C. with the New Orleans Pelicans, all of the rumors are firing up again. As things currently stand, the Wizards would have to offer significant assets to shed a contract to even have the chance of signing Cousins long-term, but Wall is not worried about any of that right now during the season. Here is what he had to say about Cousins and another Kentucky Wildcat in Anthony Davis after Tuesday mornings shootaround.
On what DeMarcus Cousins and Anthony Davis present:
"Every challenge in the world. They both can shoot threes, they both can handle the ball, they both can score in the post, they both can pass, they both can defend so they do a lot of things that make it tough to guard."
On playing against Cousins:
"I don't like him when I'm playing against him, but afterwards, we're cool."
On if he thinks about playing with Cousins again:
"Naw, not really. Once, I get into season mode, I’m locked into whatever 14 guys I have on my team and just competing with those guys, those guys being my brothers and family members. If it happens, it would be great, but it’s nothing I think about throughout the season."
On how Cousins is enjoying New Orleans:
"During the season, I just talk to him. I don’t really ask him about how he like New Orleans and stuff like that. He’ll tell me if he don’t like it, but it seems like it’s fine with him, he’s playing well."
On the Kentucky connection throughout the NBA:
"We run the league. … It’s like a brotherhood."
On if one thinks about impending free agency:
"I think it’s more in your head if you don’t [have suitors], if you know you are not one of those guys that is going to get a big deal. Knowing a lot of people might not want you, but a lot of people want him. It’s just like you are going to college, it’s a decision you got to make. … ‘What school do I really want to be at?’ He’s got the opportunity to pick and that’s a great thing. I think it would be a lot more stressful if you didn’t have a lot of options. One or two and then you would be like ‘man it’s frustrating’, but to have a lot of options, you just have to figure out what is best for you and your family and what you really want to go for. Going for the money or going for, trying to get on a team that can win and build down the road."
