Tomas Satoransky
Height: 6-7
Weight: 210 lbs.
Age: 25
NBA Experience: 1 year
Nicknames: Sato, Saty
By the Numbers:
Tomas Satoransky, aka Sato, was a new player that the Wizards brought on board this season even though he was drafted 2012 as a Euro 'draft-n-stash' second rounder. He was brought in to be a backup for John Wall but struggled in that role this past season. He is expected to be back next year. Satoransky appeared in 57 games while starting in three, finishing with 2.7 points per game. 1.5 rebounds per game and 1.6 assists per game. Those numbers may not be the highest but he did have some great games.
On MLK day against the Portland Trail Blazers he picked up a double-double with a 10 point-10 rebound performance in a Wizards 120-101 win. He also had a sweet putback dunk in the playoffs.
Season Takeaways
Satoransky had a tough start to the season being John Wall’s only backup but that won’t be an issue moving forward with the midseason addition of Brandon Jennings. It should give Scott Brooks fresh legs at the point every time he needs one of them to step up, spreading the work between the three unless Wall goes off.
Having a European superstar like Sato in our Nation’s capital will help the NBA out in their goal of making the game more global. And I enjoyed reading about his friendship with Marcin Gortat. One game I won’t forget covering is Polish Heritage Night and all of the Polish media that were crowding the room speaking to the Polish Hammer. I also covered a Czech Heritage Night game and I think if Sato puts up some good numbers, more fans from the Czech Republic will follow the Wizards.
In addition to handling the ball at point guard, Sato also done great as a shooting guard or small forward. I think another year under his belt will help him.
