Eastern Conference Semis - Game 1
Celtics 129
Wizards 119 (ot)
May 2, 2017 - TD Garden, Boston, MA
The Wizards looked to even the series after dropping Game 1. They had a promising start, fought with them, had a double-digit lead at one point but couldn’t hang on. The game went into overtime and boy did Isaiah Thomas go off. Boston’s point guard dropped 53 points and DC’s point guard John Wall dropped a respectable 42 points (including 19 in the first quarter). It was the game of point guards indeed.
MMA Round 2 for Keef. His new opponent: Al Horford.
Markieff Morris took out his frustrations from Game 1’s incident by tossing Al Horford under the basket for his first foul. Horford rejected the Wizards in free agency last summer and he was the culprit in Morris’ injury in Game 1 by sticking his foot underneath Chief Keef’s jumper. Morris had three fouls in the first five and a half minutes of the game.
But speaking of Keef, he had a great night after getting injured in Game 1..
Morris finished his night with 16 points despite the early fouls in the game. In the fourth quarter, he was hitting clutch jump shots to put the Wizards ahead with over. After his first jumper, he blocked a shot that led to a transition bucket by Bradely Beal. Following that, Keef made a jumper and that put the Wizards up 109-104 at the time with 3:09 to go.
Another double digit-lead, another appearance of #SoWizards
While Keef’s heroics were good, it wouldn’t have been necessary had the Wizards hung onto their 14-point lead in the third quarter. From there the Celtics went on a 62-38 run, forced overtime and won the game thanks to this guy I’m about to mention next.
Isaiah Thomas is good
Thomas went off and was a big part of the Celtics late third quarter rally. The Celtics point guard dropped 53 points, the second highest total in that storied franchise’s history. Thomas even had nine of the Celtics’ 15 points in overtime as they outscored the Wizards in the extra session 15-5.
Ball is in our court now
With the Celtics winning both games at home, the series now shifts to DC. The Capitals won their Game 3 last night. Will the Wizards do the same? This Thursday, we’ll find out.
