Tupac once said: "Do you believe in God? Believe in Death Row East." Watch:
So now is the time to believe in #DeathrowDC according to multiple posts on Instagram by John Wall and Markieff Morris.
According to these posts and one other by Wall's close friend Flave, #DeathrowDC is comprised of three players: Bradley Beal, referred to as Dre, Markieff Morris is Snoop; and John Wall is Pac (although in my opinion he fits the bill for Dre a bit more, but anyways).
This theme serves two critical purposes:
For one, it touts D.C. It expresses the close ties between the players and the city, which we especially love to see from Wall and Beal.
Additionally, the reference to Death Row Records personifies the bond that exists between these particular players and in the locker room as a whole. The Death Row label ran the rap game for a considerable stretch in the mid-90's, featured as part of the historic beef with Bad Boy, and as the seller of millions of records across dozens of rappers. With the masterful music production of Dr. Dre, the unmatched artistry of 2Pac, and the G-funk gawd Snoop Dogg, Death Row was considered unstoppable at one point.
Evidently, that also happens to be the way Wall, Beal, and Keef feel about themselves and about the Wizards movement as a whole.
Yes, the movement. I like that. After last night's brutally fought victory over the league's best team the Wizards are a movement. And you better believe they're moving in on that number 3 spot in the East, currently occupied by tonight's opponent, the Toronto Raptors.
But what about the other players? What if they want to be part of the #DeathrowDC movement? There doesn't really seem to be a rhyme or reason to how the current #DeathrowDC members identified with their respective artists, so which Death Row artist would the others identify with? I'll try to take some jabs that are more justified.
Marcin Gortat is Suge Knight.
Because why else? The beard and the baldy!
Otto and Oubre is Daz and Kurupt (a.k.a. The Dogg Pound).
The Wizards' small forward 1-2 punch. This is really perfect.
Bojan Bogdanovic is Nate Dogg.
Nate Dogg's melodies were so critical to an epic Death Row single. Bogie is so critical to the Wizards' rotation coming off the bench. Besides, you can easily mistake his name for Doggbanovic, right?
#DeathrowDC is certainly dope. Whether it sticks to just three players or becomes a bigger thing in the locker room, let's hope it continues to steer them to the top.
